Deep Fritz 13 vs. Houdini - It's On!

I'd like to agree with coach.  But how else might I, at some point, kick the knight?  Surely not by Bh6.  How else?  If I have to put up with that knight camped out close to where my king is going, indefinately, then I am not going to oppose h6

Mr_Spocky

Maybe a draw. If you play accuratly it will be a draw. But scince hes higher then you. GOOD LUCK :D :D :))

Looks like Houdini so far is angling for 11. h3, which is still in common theory. Critter so far is giving almost equal weight to h3, Bd3, Rc1, and Be2, calling them each dead even.

It's too early to call it a defnite draw, but I sure hope one of them tries something funky soon.

By the way, if anyone wants to start up another computer slug-fest, let me know and we can set one up. I'd like to see how my favorite Critter fares against someone else's favorite.

Excellent thread, by the way, gentlemen. Thank you for sharing.

Um... this may sound dumb, but how would the best computer on chess.com do against these 2 engines?

Scottrf

The chess.com computer would lose badly.

I'm using Houdini 1.5a X64 (4 CPUS mode) with 512 meg hash table.  It's averaging between 4,000 to 5,000 kN/s.  I'm using some discretion as to how long to let the thing calculate each move (although I am leaving the infinite analysis on most of the time between the moves).

Yeah, there is some subjectivity on the part of the operators, which is part of the fun.  Further out of book, depending on the nature of the position will determine how long I let it run to determine whether it found the best move.  We both could choose to use a little time, or up to the 3 days letting it crank to find our moves, depending on what we decide is necessary.

It's not scientific, but fun novertheless.

Luckily, we're both using the same GUI, so my settings are almost identical, just the engine is different.

I just boosted my hash table to 2609 MB. The engine has now entered "Deep Analysis Mode" based on the position noted above.

That was my thought. If you count tempos based on the current position, it appears white has a slight advantage.

Ok...in anycase, black is probably slightly better imo, where is white's advantage specifically? Perhaps the pawn center (that does nothing)?, imo, only black can be better.

A lot depends on what Houdini does with its 11th move, but the lack of development on the queenside is one possible issue. Who knows, maybe I'm completely wrong. If I am, I'd like to know.

Thanks!

Hoidini picks Bg4 I think. With the weaken kingside pawns and better development I though white looked a bit better too.

Check out the CPU usage (Phenom Quad Core). The results had better be friggin' pure genius.

Corvidae_Corvus

hope you got a huge heat sink on that puppyLaughing

are you running overclocked?

BTW love the thread guys, very interesting stuff and good commenting

"CPU Usage: 100%"

NICE! You might need bigger fans in your computer soon though....

I'm a bit overclocked, on a PC I built. The mid-tower is a high quality NZXT, and features excellent ventilation.

Sorry to keep everyone waiting for another move, but I'm getting one or two strange suggestions from Deep Fritz. After cranking away all night, it decided against Ne5 and said it had 'discovered' 12. h3

The move seems a bit odd to me, so I've run the analysis again, and will commit to a move in a few hours.
