The King's Indian Defense is an "hypermodern" (delaying the control of the centre with pawns by attacking with distant pieces) opening that allows White to control the centre with his/her pawns and later challenging it with moves such as ...e5 and ...c5.

The King's Indian Defense is a very sharp and popular defense used by many Grandmasters including both Robert Fischer and Garry Kasparov.

 

The following are two games of both Fischer's and Kasparov's in which they used the King's Indian Defense and won.
