I have learned through experience that usually the best moves aren't the most obvious ones.

Perhaps not, but that's almost an aside to the point I was making (or trying to make).  It should be obvious to you (the mover) why the subtler move is best before you turn your nose up at something that is more transparent.  I have an occasional tendency to get 'clever' (i.e. stupid) and pass up solid gains in favour of hair-brained fantasies.
