Hypothetical situation. A player rated 1600 or so plays Magnus Carlsen. We can all agree Carlsen would easily win. Now what would happen if you took Carlsen's queen off the board as a handicap? Would he still easily win? What if you took a queen and a rook off the board, etc. Is there a computer algorithm which predicts rating strength with various handicaps? For example, is it possible to calculate what pieces would need to be removed in order to reduce a player rated 2500 to the same rating as a player rated 1500?
hmmm, that’s a good question. there is no program i know of, but my guess is carlsen will still win without the queen. anything past that is kind of pushing it though...
