Blitz = instinctual chess - no analysis no deep thought, only reaction
source: 5 digits of games worth of blitz
Hint; I suspect OP puts bs about FIDE rating etc to garner more views and it works

fast pace, only people who have fast reactions & know how to think fast will be good at it.
time control: anyting less than 5 minutes or at 5 minutes.
For the USCF blitz is defined as chess games with a time control plus delay/increment being from 5 to 10 minutes total with a minimum of 3 minutes for the main time control (not including increment or delay).
So a game in 3 minutes would require a delay or increment of 2 or more seconds but no more than 7. A game in 10 could have no delay or increment (G/10, d0).
To me? I don't play much blitz as I'm not very good at it.
I am about 2000 uscf...and I belive blitz is full of sh*t
It's not real chess in my opinion, and long time control chess is what you should be practicing.
Sometimes we instinctively want to think if you're good at chess, you should be good at blitz chess too. But it's only true to a point. Sure, knowing more about chess will mean more things you already know in advance, possibly neutralizing the fact that you don't have much time to think in blitz. So long chess skill will contribute something to one's blitz chess.
But there are tons of other skills that are much more blitz specific -- getting really really good at mating with queen and king vs king (so that even with a few seconds you will mate in time) isn't going to help you in a long game when you need to figure out what pawn structure you want to create outposts for your knights (as an example). But in long games such decisions can shape the rest of the game and so are crucial.
In the heat of the moment losing a blitz game or making some horrible blunder might make you wonder if this means you're bad at chess in general. But if you had some amazing ideas in long games, the existence of those things are certainly not at the mercy of you concentrating for a few minutes during a random, drunk blitz game -- those ideas will still be there no matter how lazy you are in those few minutes :)

I agree. I only played one game on this site, a bullet game, and it ended in draw lol. I hate blitz, I usually play longer OTB games.
Blitz is a good way to waste time you should be studying, it is usually very fun, but also very time consuming
Do not post in this forum if you don't want to interact with ppl without OTB rating, and also do not use these gimmicks to get more posts on threads.
Well, maybe he just thinks the quality of the answers will be better that way; it's not necessarily a personal thing. He's not necessarily right about that, but it's his opinion.
Meh, I kinda ignored it anyway. I don't have a FIDE or USCF rating... nor a BCF. The dumbass site doesn't accept the ACF rating, so obviously Australians are all exempt from rating issues ^_^
LUCKY!
Blitz = Sharpening reflexes, chess reflexes in particular. It's a great way to try newly learnt theory or concepts and also a very good way to taste chess when one is having his hands full.

Define blitz, and what is it to you?
