Carlsen has comparitively weaker repertiore (he has improved after he worked with Kasparov) but his philosphy is ok the position is equal but the players are not....

What defines a good opening player? like are they creative, memorize lots of theory, know all the traps, or know the principles? I know that boris gelfand is not creative at all but he is still considered good at openings...
