demoralizing people who wont resign

my new thing is... I get a totally winning position, to the point theyre just shuffling round praying for stalemate..

Then out of the blue, I offer them a draw.
To my surprise... they all take it! Wink

Then I type in "lol"

One guy even offered me a rematch! hahaha

Some really weird fish on here!
What kind of F'd up creature takes that draw offer??
What is the inner monologue going on in their head at the time???

doctor_seuss

good luck getting your rating higher

robobeer

What kind of F'd up creature offers a draw with a winning position? Would you do that in a OTB tournament?

doctor_seuss

What kind of F'd up creature calls itself robobeer?

This thread is bad.  It should feel bad.

Why wouldn't they take it? After all, the reason they're playing is that they're somehow going to luckily get a draw, and if they get via an offer, why would they decline it? Why would someone keep on playing in a useless position (without time pressure for either side) and not take a draw offered to them for whatever reason? And about the rematch - why is that wrong? One game is over, just play another. Just so you know, I'm not trying to demean anyone here, so there is no reason I should receive angry responses. I'm just replying to your post and wishing that you will reply thoughtfully as well.

Are you serious?

Anyone with even a tiny dropplet of pride in themselves would deline the draw.

I just dominated them, and its quite clear Im teasing/humiliating them with the draw offer... If they accept it, its like theyre feeding from my table scraps that i just swept off the dinner table... its like a billionaire throwing money on the street and the poor scrambling and fighting over it.

Only the lowest of the low would take it.. of which there seem to be a lot on here unfortunately, including you.

LOL^

MrNoobCrusher

I'm with you on this one Monster.  It's crazy how obsessed players are with their online ratings.   A draw offer like that in my chess circle would be taken as an insult and would be met by an instant resign (assuming there is no real SM possibilities.)

doctor_seuss

hey monster with no name, lets have a game. ill sacrifice all my pieces and you'll offer me a draw ok?

You bet I'm mighty serious!

If they had any "pride" as you call it, they would have resigned already.

Your table-scraps and billionaire analogy is inaccurate. You're not sharing table scraps but half of your delicious food, because it's half of a whole point you're giving away. A billionaire would be sharing half his wealth, not a few pennies.

Do you realize that by giving half-a-point away that while you're smugly chuckling over your deed, your opponent realizes that you just threw a win away for whatever reason? If your win lies in humiliating your opponents by throwing away half-a-point rather than checkmating their kings and getting the whole point, so be it. We all know who the real winners would be then.

You're right about one thing, though. I usually do resign in online blitz games when I have a losing position, but against you, I will most definitely take the draw and offer you a rematch with more pride than ever for having gotten rewarded with half-a-point for playing a bad game by someone who thinks that he wins by offering a draw instead of checkmating!

I said I wasn't intending on starting a fight and expecting to receive angry replies, but you seem unable to respect that.

hehehe

that part in red tells us all we need to know about you

Ouch, it sounds like it might get violent on the chess board in here.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with offering a draw when you have a winning position. There are lots of reasons why someone might do this.

Popcorn please. If you can not get along take it the chess board.

That is how i was taught and winner gets bragging rights.

If they're asking for rematches, then they're probably not demoralized :(

You may have to take it to the next level and start resigning won games.  I know that's what I would do when I want to crush the fighting spirit of a fellow chess player.

If you get that bored and are that sure of yourself, just use the conditional moves to finish the game for you.  That way you only have to check back every now and then.  Once I have the game in hand, I always pull out conditional moves.  It is rewarding to come back to find that you have won a game and not because the person resigned but because you had anticipated not just his possible moves but his actual moves.  And countered them.  That is how you prove the superiority of your position and not of your play.  Because if you do it right you are actually making the best moves that you can think of were you in the opponent's position.  So it shows more respect than offering a draw and allows you to find gauge your opponent better to see if their actual moves were the same or different than what you would have done.

whozurdaddy

By the way if I play for a draw from a losing position it's because I feel like I made a mistake to get there and I have no confidence in your ability to take your superior position hand and capitalize on it.  When you offer me the draw, it confirms that you agree with my assessment.

Yeah I think I won this with about 15 conditional moves in a row:

Better yet, instead of the draw offer you should just say "well if it means that much to you here take it" then resign.
