Derust, just lucky or Completely washed?

It's been a while since I've played chess.. I had finally reached 1k elo.. But unfortunately I lost one too many games and tilted till I reached 900, then I decided to take a break (few months long or smth).. Now I can't even beat 800s... Was I just lucky and I'm just inherently terrible at the game, or rust of such magnitude for a time span like that js common? I really want to return to 1k but I just tilt the moment I lose more than 2 games.

Yeah if you left for a few months and come back 100 ELO worse that's pretty normal.

Don't play if it makes you angry though.

Guess what, I'm at end 700 now

Voi13

I don't think I'll be able to reach 1k elo this year anymore, I can't win a single game without losing an indefinite amount of them. I have no idea how to study either, I can't sense any tactic, I can't comprehend how to approach it, I am simply clueless.

Does anyone want a diamond membership account? I purchased it accidentally and i don’t want to use it… I will give you my account for 35€ considering that the membership is 70€
Voi13

I would like to use it

Voi13

But I don't think I'll switch accounts at all. Unless there's an official system to transfer said membership, I'm not following through.

@Dchessguy124 Idk how long will it be before I can reach my previous elo... I'm at 750... Should I even play chess? Idk, I expect 900 within the end of february, or as soon as possible, if I can't reach 900, I'll consider my progress a fail.

It depends if you are playing to enjoy it or just to get a number

Don't play if it makes you frustrated happy.png

Obviously it isn't just to have an numerical gain, but games aren't fun if there's just so much predictability in your outcome...

I have checked a few of your games, and you seem to be completely tilted right now. You seem to be making semi-random moves too quickly, no matter what happens. Not a recipe for success.

In this game, your opponent blundered a piece on move 11. All you needed to do is take it, and you're winning. Instead, you quickly made a random move, and proceeded to lose a lot of pawns.

In this game, you won a rook on move 5. It seem hard to lose in 6 more moves, but playing without thinking does the trick. You quickly blundered 2 pieces, and to top it off, you resigned in a completely playable position. This is a clear sign of tilt. Perhaps the best thing would be to not play for a few days, and return when you want to play chess.

@magipi I wouldn't rust too hard, would I? And should I just play unranked chess to derust instead of ranked? Or get someone else to play with me? Idk, playing chess ranked when you're rusty seems like a bad idea.

Online ratings are completely worthless, so you don't lose anything if you lose rating. You can win it back easily when you unrust yourself. (This is very different for SuperGMs, who need to protect their OTB rating, otherwise they won't get invited to top tournaments).

But you shouldn't play when you are frustrated and angry about chess. Play when you like it.

O-O

Rating inconsistencies are very common at the lower levels, though as for what the problem is I just assume that you're rusty,

Voi13

@Magipi It does feel like a pain in the ass to take a long time in order to return to the skill level you previously had. Keep in mind, skill, not elo..

Voi13

@O-O I wouldn't just call it inconsistent if I fell off by 200 elo within one break (Definitely not because I tilted hard).
