And his queen "sac" wasn't even that impressive. It's obvious black is better.

But for a 13 year old to play that way in the 1950s, it's really impressive.

Those were against shitty players. You're talking about his '53 game vs Byrne and his '64 game vs the other Byrne brother.

Any world class player could create brilliancies vs shit players like 2200-2500 level players.

FFS Kasparov played clock-fucking-simuls against national teams and dominated.

Lemonade..... That's exactly right.... your only as good as your competition..... as much as would like to believe Bobby could beat the likes of Kapovs and Kasparovs..... he never played the likes of them ... PERIOD!

Reb is a Fischer fan boy, and (incorrectly) points out that Karpov never beat Fischer's top rating.

But even though Reb is incorrect, it's true that Karpov didn't break Fischer's peak rating for about 20 years.

And as has been shown already in this topic, Kasparov was not that much stronger than Karpov.

In any case, you can't separate Fischer's pathology from his chess. Part of the reason he was so strong was because he was (for lack of a better word) obsessed. Live by the sword of obsession, die by the same sword. He went crazy, burnt out, and quit.

Was he potentially better than Kasparov? No, I don't think so, because you have to ignore Fischer's flaws to say so.

At the same time would Fischer have won the 75 match? Probably. Even Karpov had said so.
