Three games against a computer in '77, training games against Gligoric and Torre in 1992, and the rematch against Spassky in 1992.

Fischer was known for saying the K vs K games were prearranged, and had called Kasparov an idiot. Kasparov said Fischer's play in the return match vs Spassky was around 2500 level.
Fischer was also obsessed with calling himself the world champion even after he defaulted the title.
I can't imagine either of them wanting to play the other.

Nigel Short is well known as an attention w**re and the details he gives of his encounters with the alleged anonymous Fischer leave a lot to be incredulous about.
