Did chess com purge thousands of accounts?

I just noticed over the last couple days chess com removed many accounts from the global ranking. I am around 1850 rated and just yesterday I was top ~105k and 99.5% but am now top 18k and 99.9%  

Does anyone know what happened? Did chesscom purge duplicate accounts or simply raise the threshold for being a delisted inactive account?

Check here - usual accounts that one would usually see - @Hikaru , @MagnusCarlsen, among others, don't appear.

I think they must be counting who is currently online and active. Before I was around 6000 and now it’s in the low 100s or 200s when I check, something insanely ridiculous and not real. 
It also isn’t ranking me with my friends anymore.

That change is a loss. I liked to see how I ranked before, even if it was counting (as I understood) only the players active in the past 90 days. Now, it seems they count only who's online AND active in live games atm.

One more "improvement" that improves nothing and makes things worse.

Someone, somewhere, tries not to get fired and keep justifying their salary (ies)...
