Did Svidler miss something brilliant

I was watching an analysis of this game on Youtube, and I noticed something that was possible after blacks 33... b4 where I am confused, did Svidler miss something, or am I the one missing an amazing defense to my idea (which is probably likely)

Ben_Dubuque

seriously though, am I missing something, or was this a blown Opprotunity, the engines on the official site don't display Qc7 as an option, I wonder why...

Ben_Dubuque

I really hate bumping a thread, but I thought there would be discussion and someone correcting me with a credible line as to why Qc7 doesn't work.

I'll run an engine on it okay? Gimme a sec.

ok thanks,

My GUI is giving me problems, I tried to run it through and it didn't let me it reset to starting position.

I am probably worse at endgames, but white should be able to support those pawns easily enough

samtoyousir

So before Qc7, white has a +1.30 advantage. Winning.

After Qc7, it's a dead draw. Let me give you the lines. One sec.

Ben_Dubuque

ok thanks, I am curious as to what the lines are.

white's bishop will be shut down, while blacks king will come into play via f7

ok that makes sense,

can white bring his king in and re arange the bishop to a different diagonal??? just trying to learn.

samtoyousir

Basically, its a forced repitition draw by the black Queen.

Ben_Dubuque

ok thanks, wow that stinks, I find a working Queen sac and all it leads to is a draw by repetition

Ben_Dubuque

after doing a double check, why not  5.Bg3 seems to prevent some of the checks, and I think Black runs out of checks; I am probably horribly wrong here, but it is worth a try, got to defend my variations.

Naw, after Qh1+ and White playing Bh2. Black has Qxf3. Dont need an engine for that!

Ben_Dubuque

ok thanks, I am dissapointed in that, now. a great creative move and it is a draw.

samtoyousir

Hey, good to keep thinking about it! Keep it up! Pretty impressive Svider saw it huh?

Ben_Dubuque

he probably did, but that is why they are super GM's and I am barely able to hold my own against 2000 USCF players.
