I am still low rated (not even 1200 OTB) so take it for what it is worth... As my tactics rating climbed slowly for several years to a peak in the 1600’s on that site, my OTB rating stagnated at around 900 for several years until I started doing their “non-winning” and “mixed mode” tactics. Then it went up in the last less-than-2-years by nearly 300 points and I have managed an even record against players rated 1300-1500 in those OTB encounters (granted I took a 3 year break from OTB chess and don’t play as often OTB as I would like). Those “non-winning” tactics (which include defensive tactics, drawing tactics, and only-move-to hold-the balance tactics) force you to look more closely at your opponent’s threats and other resources (such as perpetual check, for example), whereas without “non-winning” tactics in the mix, you may be tempted to try a check or sacrifice and be successful often enough without seeing the whole line through from the beginning that you may think you are better than you really are.

I have recently been able to breach the 2000 rating in standard tactics trainer of chess tempo. I wanted to share it somewhere because it felt like an achievement. So, I am sharing it here. happy.png
