Im 800 rapid, 400 blitz and my puzzle rating is 2500. honestly starting to think that solving puzzles doesn't even improve my game

*Update*, now about: 1300 rapid, 1000 blitz and about 2900 puzzles, I hit 3000 once but immediately fell back down (I've been trying to climb back up but its tough). I think at this point , what I need to do to improve is to keep playing slower time controls, at least 15+10 rapid online but most importantly also planning on playing more OTB.

With your strong puzzle rating we should really expect a huge jump in your rapid rating at any moment. Well done!

I was thinking the same thing.

3,000 puzzles rating is a great number. Well done.

The more you guess, the higher your puzzle rating is compared to your live rating. Mine was 400 points higher before I stopped guessing.

There is this persistent myth that to improve at below Master level, all you need to do is tactics. For most people it may indeed be the thing that yields the biggest improvement. But if someone has a puzzle rating of 3000 and live ratings below 1300, then assuming they are doing the puzzles in a way that helps (that is, calculating everything before moving and setting a time limit), then tactics are not what is holding them back and other aspects of the game may need attention.

My brother's tactics rating is 500 points higher than mine, but I win 2/3 games against him and am rated 200 points higher.

Tactics rating is just free points to make people enjoy the problems. I say they are inflated.

The biggest difference for the rating gap is that the puzzles let you think for 30 minutes without any penalty. Games have a clock.

My puzzle rating is far higher, puzzle rating 2014, daily rating 1148

My puzzle rating is 1850, but my rapid is 730.

I'm 1100 rapid and I managed to get up to 2300+ puzzle rating. But it took me on average ten minutes per puzzle which I did not find optimal for training. And not that fun either.

Now I spend average 1-2 minutes per puzzle but rating dropped to 2000.

777 Rapid, 1334 puzzle, typical gap. In puzzle I know for sure there is a decisive move to be made, usually including checking the opponent, and I can find it. In a game, moves are about position, defense, taking minor material, etc., and I’m not good enough to sort it all to the best move about 60% of the time. Hence the gap.

blitz 1500, rapid 1700, puzzles 2600.  Guess I need to learn openings and endgames better lol

It seems that the 10 minutes were more productive: you was forced to calculate further, something that we should do when playing chess. I am surprised to see that your rapid rating is so slow, perhaps you are regularly missing something in the opening, or your defensive skills are underdeveloped. What do you see when you analyze your games?

The difference between rapid and puzzles is normal. Most people have a better puzzle rating.

Rapid 860, bullet 700, blitz 500, puzzle 1700. I just make so many unnecessary mistakes in games because I get stressed.

I think It depends on how long you're prepared to spend on puzzles. You could take at least 24 hours per puzzle if you wanted to and still improve your puzzle rating (I think).

brasileirosim

Yes, I guess spending more time to solve is more important than just trying to guess.

1600 rapid and 2600 puzzles, but my rapid is going up fast

Are you improving in rapid because your tactics?

Or did you work on other parts of the game too?
