Difference of Live Chess with OTB

I know what Live chess is, and so OTB, in theory!

What I want to know is the experience learned, the emotions, the feelings, etc.

Thank you! Cheers! Danke!

Live chess on Chess.com is nothing like over the board chess. Playing in a great hall among hundreds of players at the same time is a unique experience that has no equal. Definitely emotions play a much greater role in over the board chess, for better or worse. I would play over the board chess anytime over internet chess, although the convinence of the internet affords me much more playing time and against stronger players than I would probably be able to get over the board. I play over the board when I can though!

I played over the board, too! Really, it is more intense especially under time pressure.

However, I have not played OTB or "correspondence chess", as it gives you more time, 24 hours or more (is it?) to make your move!

Therefore, I guess the adrenaline rush is not so much as in Live Chess!

Am I correct?  I want to know from the standpoint of OTB players. Thanks!

I play OTB for my local chess club in local leagues and it is certainly the emotional aspect of the game that is the difference!  You can see your opponent right in front of you!

but online here its about as much fun as watching grass grow.

Cheers, Becky

yeah, the fun/work ratio is definitely reversed. it's a different pespective . to me, online/correspondence chess is kind of like conducting a science experiment rather than playing a game. well this is how I treat it anyway. I, personally, use it to experiment with different things and learn/research for the most part. don't really take it that seriously and am not that competitive about it in all honesty.

To summarise:

To learn chess do the OTB, to have more fun, play live chess!Laughing
