Disabling chat is rude

If your opponent had never known you and disabled chat in a game, I find it pretty rude. It doesn't let you communicate even the most simplest talk, like "gl" or "gg."

. . . it also doesn't allow the rudest talk.Wink

Well you can give your opponent a chance. If they are rude then you might as well go ahead. But what if your opponent never met you before?

I disagree that disabling chat is rude, but I respect anyone's decision to abort a game if they prefer playing an opponent who's also in chat mode.

kco

for christ sake is only just a f$#@ing game.

kco

how can it be rude when disable the chat in the first place and in live chess the players probably want to conterate on the game, is the OP is the one with the problem.

They actually "communicated" that they are not interested in simple talk. They just want to play a game of chess.

I always have my chat disabled when playing live chess here, i'm there to play chess, not talk, especially since when i play live chess here it is blitz. I'm baffled at why you think that is rude, it isn't rude to basically request silence when playing. If your looking to chat, go to the forums here, or even the turn based chess feature here. But I play with the live servers as I would in person- playing quietly. If you think that is rude, then I think that is your problem, not those who disable chat.

But it's not a problem. Each person chooses the way they prefer.

Exactly! If one disable his chat, it is only because he wants to concentrate on his game. Others don't because they see chess as a friendly game that is use to socialize with people that share the same interest as them.

Jordan_G

@chrisr2212 Yep, but someone thinks one side is rude for how they play. ;)

I would much rather them disable chat than say rude comments.

I would much rather them losing than disabling chat, or saying rude comments.

This question has come up before and will continue to come up again because there is no best answer. Both sides of  this topic, come up with equalizing responces, think we have a stale mate hereCool   All I can say, is practice on your end game!! Hi trysts, nice meeting you here!

It's always a pleasure to see you on the forums, GhostNightLaughing

bolshevikhellraiser

maybe they simply dont want to listen to what you have to say, or maybe theyre channeling theyre concentration on the game rather channeling their concentration on rather or not they hurt your feelings. so what if they dont want to listen to you. i don't wanna listen, speak or look at you. now what? oh yeah i'm rude

Is there any way to block forum threads that contain the phrases "disabling" and "chat"?

Surely you'd want "rude", "resign" and "unfair" in there as well.
