When is it correct to retreat from an attack plan and when is it appropriate to exchange? Sometimes I seem to strike the right balance but sometime I feel retreating too much --cut and running- is a bad idea. However, once the dust settles I am left with less pieces than I started with and sometimes with an equal amount and questionable positions.

 

Ideas?
