I liked this programme. I wish these two commentators were always this good.

I wonder if Naka would have a different opinion of Tarrasch had he encountered him earlier in his career. In other words, does he think Tarrasch is a good teacher for the beginner to intermediate player? C J S Purdy had a high opinion of him as a Chess writer. Nimzovich was very critical of Tarrasch, I think because Tarrasch was not trying to show 2000+ players how to improve. I suggest Tarrasch was trying to serve up more basic Chess, not the finer points.

Poor Hikaru. He’ll be 33 later this year and he’s worried about his legacy. We shouldn’t scorn him, we should pity him. His best chess days are behind him, he’ll never compete for world champion, and he may never win another major tournament. He only has one major international win in a top tournament, Tata Steel, and that was nine years ago. It’s sad really. His ego must be hurting. Well, at least he has lots of followers and is doing well financially. That’s something.

He destroyed a2700 with the Boncloud, that is worth more than being WC

Oh yes! He will always have that bong cloud victory! He may have finished third, and did below average in the rapid section, but they will sing songs around campfires of his bong cloud victory! Remember, always pass to the left.

U are completely wrong,go watch the game properly. His opponent blundered terribly in a winning position, hikaru did not destroy him.

U too!? Guys go watch the game properly and then return.

@vishnu_vijay_93 - I think any time someone says that beating someone with the bong cloud is better than being world champion, we should take the comment as seriously as we take Hikaru.

Hikaru says things like he would have been world champ if it weren't for Magnus, and rates himself higher than players like Caruana.

Can we get some real chess players to comment? Not the worse-than-beginner Twitch fanboys?

Naka is not, and has never been, in the same class as players like Caruana. He broke 2800 once in 2015 when circumstances saw him stumble into the world #2 spot. But consistently across his career, he's been lower than 2800 and lower than world #5. He is currently world number 18.

Caruana is consistently (year after year) over 2800 and consistently in the top 5.

THIS IS NOT WHAT A TOP TIER PLAYER LOOKS LIKE AT AGE 32.

---

Naka has never been a world champion contender. He doesn't belong on a list of players like Keres, Korchnoi, and Bronstein. He could have been WC if it weren't for Carlsen? He only qualified for one candidates tournament and he finished on 50% (3 wins and 3 losses).

Comparing himself to someone like Caruana who didn't lose a single game in a match with arguably one of the greatest players of all time is ridiculous.

My friend sends me videos of him pooing which is way more disgusting (not even joking). Up your game

@GoatScape it seems you took the word "disgusting" a bit too literally...

Anand maintained his world champion status until he was 43. Now, I'm not saying Hikaru is anand, but Hikaru does have an 8 - 2 record against him...

NikkiLikeChikki
You’re joking, right? By Naka’s age, Anand had already been world champion and won dozens of major tournaments. Naka has accomplished practically nothing at the international level. He may not get worse for a couple of years, but he’s not getting any better. Naka’s positive score is a result of age and nothing else. If I were an Anand fan I would be insulted by this post.

Judit Polgar a legend? That's even dumber than having Hikaru in that spot.

Youngest ever IM and GM at the time the bunny believes, forget that she's a pioneer that broke into top 10 dominated by men.  The bunny thinks it's less dumb at least.

Sergey Karjakin has been the youngest GM in history and he's not even a candidate and being a woman shouldn't be a criteria for appearing in this list, unless of course, you admit there is some disparity grin.png

It makes absolutely no sense.

Why would the best female chess player ever be a legend? Very nonsensical.

Well, we are talking about chess regardless of genders aren't we?
