well some people do it because they have many openings prepared, and are debating over which one to use. @SNUDOO
Distractions

lol, once i played this dude who just sat there for the first 20 minutes, contemplating what his first move should be. I was thankful for the free time advantage
when you play 1.f4 and your opponent sits there for 4 minutes looking incredulously at you

dat's me, except once I decide to play something I don't take that long to move

Yeah. Also, I would recommend that you go to an OTB tournament @DrSuperJJ , once it's safe to do so. Even if its just a local club, it's a fun experience to have!

Once upon a time, knowing that mom and wife are wondering why did I disconnect the phone. Somehow they are getting it to certain point nowadays.

The guy that every time he plays a move, instantly dashes up 'to go to the toilet'...very hard to concentrate at that point.
"Like seriously learn some opening theory, we don't want to sit here to be stuck on openings"
It's not at all uncommon to see the strongest players in the world take several minutes on their first few moves, They have enormous theoretical knowledge, and they are deciding which lines will work best against this particular opponent, and which strategic plans suit their mood that day

When my opponent doesn't place their pieces in the center of the square! They got all their pieces sloppy as can be, hanging over the edge of the squares... this drives me nuts Lol
Serious question if anyone actually knows the answer... In competition, can I say "I adjust" and adjust my opponent's piece???
You can adjust ANY piece on the board, yours or your opponent's, but only on your time
I remember in one of my first tournaments I adjusted my piece on my opponent's time, and he screamed "DON'T ADJUST ON MY TIME". I learned my lesson lol.
Lol, that's a little sad too

yeah. once the guy called the tournament director over and accused me of breaking the rules because i accidentally touched my piece while going to grab my pencil on my opponents turn.

hey guys so do any of u guys have any tips for going to a tournamnet for the first time cuz i might get to go after corona.

Follow the rules very strictly, aka don't talk to others even if they're your friends. Getting the TD's attention is not a good idea. Overall, try to stay focused on your game, and don't walk around too much.
