ive meet lots of people rated 1600-2000 that dont do good in school and some people play for fun not for competition and because of that they are bad and i guess they have a low IQ so you cant say only high IQ people play chess. True ive also met som people good at chess and at math. I think it has some connection so in conclusion it depends if you are casual or competitive. BUT THEN AGAIN there are good casual people. Ive also noticed MOST people that play chess primarialy the young dudes <20 are good at academics so maybe chess dosent affect your IQ even if it does its not gonna be like EInstein. btw einstein sucked at science and math its true!

First and foremost. It's talent and when you reach the point where talent no longer helps you improve it's where intelligence comes in. There are probably a few players in every sport who had hardly any talent but were greatly intelligent and studied hard to push themselves to a professional and even prodigial level.

Overall the point is chess may attract geniuses intellectually, but strength for a large pool of players who mainly rely on talent will have no correlation.

I would guess however, that at higher levels reaching Master Strength and above players have higher than average intellects because their talent alone ended quite a while ago but they're still able to learn more complex principles and intricacies because of their greater mental capability, however there are still natural talents at this level as in any other sport, but they are far rarer.

Chess players are smarter in general- this cannot be argued cause they beat non chess players at the sophisticated game 100% of the time
