Do I have this right?

I think that, when calculating the change in rating at the conclusion of a game, chess.com uses your rating at that moment (not the rating at the start of the game) right?  So imagine if I'm playing two people and both games are nearing the end, and one game I'm probably going to lose, and the other I'm probably going to win.  I think I'm better off resigning the lost game before winning the won game, right?  In other words, it's better to lose before winning, than win before losing in terms of the total effect on your rating, right?

I think the order matters, but it also depends on whether the opponents are rated higher or lower than you. Maybe in some cases win 1st lose 2nd may be better.

I dont like the idea of using the end rating, it becomes a mess if your opponent times out in a lot of games, and his rating drops by 100's of points during your game.

wowwwww.you guys are so smart.these things never get into my head.

just play and enjoy.i recommend fighting to the end.although we should know what this probably exactly means and you need to decide that.

just make sure your resignation isnot premature.

I can't think of a scenario where win first, lose second is better.  Losing first will always make your subsequent win more "impressive" from a delta rating perspective, regardless of your opponent's strength.  Conversely, winning first will always make your loss more significant in terms of rating points lost.  In my games, this factors into how rapidly I make moves in the "winning" game rather than how soon I resign the losing game.  I always play as hard as I can until I have no hope of winning -- then I resign.

Any mathematical types out there?  Does order matter in regard to the effect on your rating?

Why not type the numbers into an elo calculation website?
