Do most people play consistently or fluctuate?

Btw, I "fluctuate" even in a single game.

I was 1540 recently in blitz and fell to less that 1200. I played at night when i was very tired. Not a good idea to do it.

I think you might have an addiction.

I think many blitz players have an addiction that is similar to a gambling addiction. They keep playing thinking their 'luck' will change.

This is why I always say you can feel happy if your rating doesn't fall after playing many games in a row.

I feel a little happy when my rating doesn't go up. There is too much pressure to maintain.

The kid... I mean, the preteen is right! Laughing (he loves trash talking while playing, btw).

I see. I suppose it was a little sarcastic. But most if it really is surprise about how someone could 'fluctuate' 150 points. Seems like it would take a lot of work.

But, if it is due to my Chess Gambler theory, then it is understandable.

And what is that theory?!

Is that a gambling strategy?

YEs, a bad one.

What's a good one?

From my experience there is no much difference between players with 200-300 points gap. I had 1400-1500 rating many games and i didn't feel pressure to maintain it until that night when i should have gone to a bed instead of playing. One good day when you feel well and you go up and one bad day and you go down. When i'm losing many games i can lose my confidence as well and it makes my games worse.

Google: gambling strategies

I only gambled one time. Spent about 8 hours at a blackjack table. Won $200. Then blew it all on my way out the door. Laughing

This is no good, Areez:

Why keep doing something that is making you feel bad? (I don't mean overall, I just mean when you are not doing well).

IN case you are too lazy to read, here is a song to help:

After posting this, I remembered you live in a Youtube free zone. SO here are the lyrics:

On a warm summer's eve
On a train bound for nowhere
I met up with the gambler
We were both too tired to sleep
So we took turns a-starin'
Out the window at the darkness
The boredom overtook us,
And he began to speak

He said, "Son, I've made a life
Out of readin' people's faces
Knowin' what the cards were
By the way they held their eyes
So if you don't mind me sayin'
I can see you're out of aces
For a taste of your whiskey
I'll give you some advice"

So I handed him my bottle
And he drank down my last swallow
Then he bummed a cigarette
And asked me for a light
And the night got deathly quiet
And his face lost all expression
He said, "If you're gonna play the game, boy
You gotta learn to play it right

You've got to know when to hold 'em
Know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away
And know when to run
You never count your money
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin'
When the dealin's done

Every gambler knows
That the secret to survivin'
Is knowin' what to throw away
And knowin' what to keep
'Cause every hand's a winner
And every hand's a loser
And the best that you can hope for is to die
in your sleep

And when he finished speakin'
He turned back toward the window
Crushed out his cigarette
And faded off to sleep
And somewhere in the darkness
The gambler he broke even
But in his final words
I found an ace that I could keep

You've got to know when to hold 'em
Know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away
And know when to run
You never count your money
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin'
When the dealin's done

You've got to know when to hold 'em (when to hold 'em)
Know when to fold 'em (when to fold 'em)
Know when to walk away
And know when to run
You never count your money
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin'
When the dealin's done

You've got to know when to hold 'em
Know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away
And know when to run
You never count your money
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin'
When the dealin's done

As you said it's an addiction. When i lose i feel a compulsion to play more and more. I don't feel this need when i'm on a winning streak. And it's a  paradox.

I used to have the same problem with drinking. When I wasn't drinking, I didn't want to drink. But once I started drinking, I couldn't stop.

It really sucks to feel that way.

This has absolutely nothing to do with what we are talking about. But, if there is one thing that can get my mind off chess, it's a bunch of sexy hillbilly chicks dancing around in short skirts and tight shirts. Laughing

Sorry you will have to miss out again Areez.

You're always welcomed!
