Do wood sets need keeping in a humidor?

Recently some collectors have told me their sets are cracking. Most often on the ebony side.

These are antique sets. I wonder why they are now cracking after 100-200 years?

Is it because they are weighted and our houses are now too dry?

Do, or will modern sets crack too?

Anyone with an opinion or experience please post here

I have acoustic guitars so proper humidity levels in the house are essential.  Although chess sets aren't under tension like a string instrument they certainly need a proper humidity level to keep from cracking.  I use a large humidifier but there are other solutions.  Simplest is to toss a slightly damp sponge in the drawer or cabinet where your pieces are.  Pretty sure there have been threads on this in the past...

 Thanks, Alan,

I knew about instruments, my wife, a flutist told me.

how do I search old threads?

On a PC it's easy.  There is a blank space under the orange New Topic button.  Fill it in and click.  Don't know about the mobile app...

No. Acoustic guitars are a completely different matter and have nothing to do with chess pieces. I have some Drueke Staunton pieces that are over 20 years old and show zero signs of cracking or any other humidity related problems. I store them in a wooden box.
