I like being black, since there's a ton of ways to respond to common openings that can throw off your opponent when you don't play what they expect. I find it funny how I can sometimes get people to stop and think for a moment about what to do next when I play something other than e5 in response to e4. The French and the Sicilian are particularly good for getting those "wait...what?" reactions from players who expected a very standard opening.

I once did the Dutch as a response to 1. d4, and the very long pause as my opponent tried to figure out what just happened was pretty funny. Unfortunately, the game didn't go very well for me.
