I used to frequently listen to music when playing chess. It did sometimes help me improve my game. Eventually, I did stop. I don't remember why, but I do remember that the music I listened to changed tones across different tracks, which occasionally didn't fit the situation and clashed with the position, either by being bright in an intense situation, creating confusion, or by overdramatizing said position and creating high levels of tension instead.
