Uh, it kind of does make them smarter.

When a low ELO player asks for example: Why didn't (piece) go to (place) and checkmate? They get turned down or ridiculed. Instead of doing this tell them why that move is bad and don't discourage or tell them that they are "negative ELO". This is a huge problem in chess. Remember, just because you are a high ELO, doesn't make you smarter than everybody below your ELO.

How huge is it? Haven't seen that happen so much

i mostly happens in the daily puzzle comments

Toxicity in the Chess community? Oh, no, not at all! It's a serene and idyllic paradise where players engage in peaceful debates and kindly pat each other on the back for their brilliant moves.

Insults and bad manners? Simply non-existent! It's a realm where everyone floats on clouds of positive energy and serenades each other with motivational speeches. So, worry not! Toxicity is but a tiny, imaginary pawn lost in the vast expanse of blissful chess harmony.

The "toxicity" problem isn't a chess problem, it's an internet problem.

sassygirltebritish

it is 40 percent of the players are a bit toxic of course

I think that online chess in particular brings out a lot of hyper confident, emotionally insecure people.

It is not a chess nor an internet problem. It is a people problem magnified by the internet allowing certain types of person to say horrible things that they almost certainly would not dare to do if faced by the individual they are abusing.

You're wrong. Let's fight
