DO YOU FEEL PRIVILEGED?

Unlike millions of people that dont know how to play the game or cant figure how to play the game in terms of your talent do you feel privileged that you actually know how to play the game? And the fact you can win at it?

No, I don't. I feel like a freak sometimes. The vast majority of people don't know how to play, it's true. But it's because chess is a hard game. It takes years and years of hard work just to get somewhere. Thousands of hours. Subconsiously, many people are afraid of the work and discipline it takes to improve, and they are afraid of losing. That is why they avoid chess.

And maybe you could have spent that time better. Like making more money?.........

I feel privileged for many other things I take for granted, Chess is not among them.

I'm very lucky to have known the game. It defined me. I discovered it on a Commodore 64 game Sargon. It was slow and dumb. But it was ingenious. Then I discovered it on Chessmaster 2100, and it kicked ass.

There is an old joke, when people ask,"What is chess?" the answer would be "What is life?"

Chess is so much like life. Wars between nations. Wars against diseases. Fisticuff fighting, moves and counters and counter to counters. Evolution (biological, technological, sociological, etc...) is one big chess game.

Chess is THE metaphor in pratically EVERY movie. My 2 favorites is Blade Runner and George of the Jungle. The poachers are trying to kindnap a smart gorilla and make a ton of money putting it on a show in Vegas.

"There's five stinkin' apes out there. Which one are we takin' to Vegas? - The one who's playing chess"

I have a figurine Ceasar Agustus and Napoleon and Josephine chess set. When I play chess, I feel like I'm the king of the world. No, even more than that, I feel like a God, like I control the fates of men.
