Do you find it Odd when a Queen is an Upside Down Castle ?

It's interesting that the USCF explicitly states it shall be a Queen. What if both Knights are still on the board....and that's what you want ? IOW's, a knight is not readily available and there's a heavy time crunch ? Lean over and pilfer one off the board next to you ?

It's just ridiculously tough to play with it fast-

Yes.

I believe you can also stop the clock and go get one.

I heard once GM Gufeld did precisely that to show how to give checkmate with three knights.

An upside down rook is still a rook a little worn

RichColorado

11 Of my newest chess set came with an extra white and a black queen.

Whats the problem? We used to use a small super Hero Like the Hulk.

Flip me over I'd love to be a Queen

I never really thought about whether it was odd or not. I think it looks kinda cool to have the rook upside down. XD

The_Ghostess_Lola

I mean it is the only piece that can stand on its head and not tip over.

"Felt Up" !

I've seen this before. But all my sets have extra Queens, so it's not really necessary...except one set I have in the Philippines, I have the extra Queens for that one in the United States...which I had forgotten to leave with it. So I suppose until I unite the extra Queens with that set, we'll need to invert a rook on that set if we ever get a passer to promote when a Queen is already on the board.

The_Ghostess_Lola

Well, they are sisters you know. Unite them ! It is your obligation 12/29.

BTW, I've heard of ppl throwing their opponents Queen out the window in anger b4. Then the dog gets it and goes and buries it....and then that's it.

madhacker

That reminds me of a young boy asking me in a position where his queen was trapped "Where can my queen go now?", and I couldn't resist replying "Back in the box, I think"

I refer to the extra Queens as "Cheerleaders," because of how they are almost always placed next to the board after it being set up, as if they are looking on the game being played, cheering on their colors, if you will. Exactly like this:

The_Ghostess_Lola

They're threatening too !....Joan of Arc, Hildegard of Bingen, Catherine de Medici, etc....and they want n2 the game so bad....

December_TwentyNine

Well hunnie, all they can do at the moment is cheer, cheer, cheer!!! "Give me a W! an H! an I! a T! an E! Go White go! Go White go! King's Pawn Opening! G-O W-H-I-T-E Go!!!" Lulz.

Zigwurst

That's not a Queen; it's a Rook. Even if it's inverted, it's a rook.

I have it on good authority that an upside down rook  can never be a queen. Apparently, one of Karpov's opponent's did this, and Karpov calmly turned it over as an adjust and carried on.

If you need a queen and there isn't one at hand , you push the pawn to the 8th, stop the clock and go and get one - or something very close to this.

CoolRandomStar

CHess should come with a extra queen
