i used to get intimidated but now i play at a club where most the players are 2000 plus anyways,as i play with them every week,i just see as a chance to pick there brains, like next weekend my team  mates are playing in the 4ncl (4 nations chess league) where they will playing against some really strong players.so they will be brining there games to chess club so i can have a look and learn from there wins  or loses, lol i havent beat any of them yet, come close a couple of times :) lucky there some players that are around my strength so im not losing every game :)

Ifeel about the same a couple hundred points higher and I tend to worry. About 300 or 400 lower and I find myself struggling sometime

Generally above 1800+ I begin to worry.

2000+ and I'm uncomfortable

2200+ and I'm dead.

If its less that 200 pts above me, I'm gonna beat them :).

I generally try not to worry about rating, in fact I don't even look at my opponent's rating before the game.

I'm intimidated by anyone with a rating within a hundred points less than mine. I never feel a game is in the bag till I am at least a piece ahead, even if I outrate my opponent by 500 points.

it generally doesn't matter to me - i prefer 1400-1700 and am very interested in playing 1900+.  as for below 1400, it depends on how they play certain types of games...

I play the board not the rating...

i love when people say that, can you really play a rating?  can you really play with anything else other than whats on the board?  one should consider their opponents rating when formulating your game strategy.  when playing someone rated over 200 points more than you, security, accuracy and playing true to yourself is the name of the game.  200 points less you have a little leeway to experiment some and try out new openings or midgame positions.

As noted above there is a big difference in OTB & Online.  In general though I'm much more uncomfortable matching against opponents rated significantly lower than me. [It stands to reason that the higher rated individual has "more to lose"]

I played in a USCF tourney on Saturday and beat someone 500 pts higher than me.  Any high rated player can make a mistake, or could be experiencing personal issues effecting their gameplay. (The before mentioned game is on my blog if you're curious)

I use CC as a platform for experimentation as well, and my rating varies wildly for it (+/- 300pts).  I suspect this is the case with many other players.

I certainly get intimidated by players say 200+ above me.

I have been considering suggesting an option in chess.com to turn off opponent's rating showing - I'd be interested to see how I play against someone without knowing their grade.  Then at the end of the game I'd want to see what the grade is.  Probably not realistic to do this on every page on the site but maybe on games pages?

Might be worth considering Erik ...?

Nope.  I'm an equal opportunity loser...I've lost to national masters and I've lost to eight year old children who just learned the game.  What's to get psyched out about?

I am scared when i play anyone over 2000 in chess.com. I relax when i play anyone under 1400. I play up against higher rated players and down against lower rated players (sometimes too much) In USCF i am not scared below 900 and scared above 1600.
