Do you lose points when disconnecting?

Do you actually lose points when you quit a match by disconnecting? Because I was wondering why people don't simply resign, and then I thought they may not face a rating loss if they disconnect instead. So I tried it once (I simply turned off wifi from my device / closed the app) and my rating stayed the same. I don't want to try it more times, but I believe people should definitely be losing points for doing this. Also, is there a way to report players?

If you disconnect before you make your first move the game doesn't count for rating points. Otherwise a disconnect in the middle of the game is the same as a loss.

Also, I believe that if you disconnect too often before your first move, you start losing points in that situation as well.

Yes, I heard that if you disconnect too often in the beginning (or if you cancel the game too often actually), you won't have that option to cancel a started game anymore.

But the people I was talking about will disconnect in the middle of the game. For example earlier today, I took someone's queen, suddenly he was disconnecting…

Yep, it happens

Yeah, there's no good reason for the other player to have done that, other than the fact that they were having a tantrum about losing. They'll have lost the rating points either way. As for reporting it, I know there's a way to do it, but I'm not sure how to do it myself. Can anyone else help out?

It would be cool if there was a page where we could enter the usernames of those noobs so that reporting is easier. Chess.com, you hear me?

@kaynight, what do you mean with I did well at my level?
