it can help you play faster and better.

Bullet is based more on predicting moves where as Blitz is more going with your gut and playing fast which is good for your chess

People's opinions vary concerning bullet; I think it can be helpful from the standpoint of you are seeing a wide range of openings quickly, and have to formulate a defense (or offense) on the scramble. If you've got a decent memory this can help if/when you study. Also the sting of a loss is less in bullet, repeated discouragement can run off a beginner.

I don't know man... they seem pretty unanimous to me.

I would rather play Tetris or Candy Crush than Bullet Chess. G-5/5 is the fastest one should play chess.

People can play whatever they like. They just can't play it and call it chess

My opinion is you can play bullet chess if that’s what you want to get good athappy.png If you like it it’s fine to play everyday, if you have a goal for rapid or blitz that’s fine toogrin.png My favourite time control is 10|0 Blitz or 5|5

I think it is impossible to get "good" at bullet solely by playing bullet. As you get stronger at slow chess you get stronger at speed chess.

I don't think bullet is chess at all. It requires a completely different skill set than OTB chess, and if you goal is to improve OTB than you should avoid bullet completely. My bullet rating here is over 900 points higher than my national rating, which speaks for how unrelated it is to regular chess, and how much of your strength is derived from non-chess factors (mousespeed, internet connection, reflexes, etc.).

My current blitz rating is roughly 2000 points higher than my FIDE rating.

Steven-ODonoghue

Is your FIDE rating 6?

Lol! I would be the first person in the FIDE history to ever have a rating of 6.

Hello everyone. I was wondering if bullet chess is a necessary category that I should practice. Lots of coaches say that playing bullet does not help. Some even consider it as a video game! Share your thoughts in the comments bellow.

Does it help? No.

Do you need to play it? No.

Is it fun to play it? Yes, unless you play on trackpad like me and hurts the fingers-then no.

Good one!

If you want to improve in chess, then do not play fast time controls. If you want to become better at chess, don't play bullet. In fact, it may actually hurt your chess, teaching you bad habits, etc. ... In chess, everything you do has a cost and delays or even ruins your improvement.

Copy and pasted. Pathetic.

Bullet is not a good estimate of one's strength. It is good by the means of fun and relaxation, but bullet is not played on a serious format, usually it is just blitz, rapid and classical time format that is urged to be played in tournaments and the reason for this is because bullet it is not neccessarily important for the majority, and is the least credible out of all of the time formats.(no offense to any bullet players out there.)

Playing fast is important in bullet and blitz and sometimes when the time is coming down to the wire in rapid. However we all have to remember that classical time format is king in chess and world championship matches and titles are determined by classical time formats not bullet.

Bullet is a skill, however it is not a skill you would bring to a classical time match with over 6 hours, that is the skill that you don't need to bring, because chances are you will probably end that game before you need skills for bullet. Chess didn't make bullet for all seriousness, that is what classical and rapid time formats are for, and blitz as well, but bullet has too many factors, therefore it is not something that is credible and it cannot name Elo or actual rating due to it.

But it can spell the type of skills a player may have, such as intuition or high logical play, but in terms of calculation or playing in legit time formats that allow people to play near to their best, bullet is just no something that is helpful.

So@OP this is why I recommend to do Rapid(20 minute-45 minute) or 60 minute games on chess.com if you have the time.  It is good to do 10 minute blitz as well, however if you are looking for real improvement perhaps blitz is something you can wait on, however as for bullet it is just not something that will help you in the long-term.

For serious players wanting Improvement, solving a very difficult puzzle from ECC would do more help than playing a quick bullet game.

No Blitz is typically 5/0 because increment of 5 second is BS and should count as rapid and not blitz

The least you can do is probably 3/0
