Do you own a chess den, room, or nook?

Show your work.
All you need is a square yard of space (square meter for the rest of the world).
I will never get rid of Lennon, but Lasker's soon to arrive.
I'm in the just=graduating-college-don't-really-live-anywhere phase of life, but whenever I actually have a home I certainly will do something like that. Maybe backgammon will be allowed in the area too.

heh i have a table next to my computer dedicated to chess.
Standard tourney board.. and i have a nice Chess set with chinese emperor pieces..
i'll upload a nice pic as soon as i take it :)
glad im not the only one hehe i got chess books too..i do need a good clock.

I am inspired. I have to consolidate my chess stuff. All of what I have is scattered about, although do I have quite a few chess books in my bookshelf that have made there own nook.

This was my old set up. This was before I started divesting myself of loads of stuff, and put my computer on that desk.

This is my new set up. I only use this for sites that don't have an analysis board feature. The games pictured are a USCF correspondence quad that is dragging on forever. All my games are done. Either I'm going to win it or tie for first.
In the closet whose door is on the left of this photo I have a storage area set up for my other sets and my chess backpack. Maybe I can photo that this weekend. I've also been thinking of setting up all my chess boards (plus variants) at once, just to see what it looks like. If I do that I'll take a photo.

I have a corner of the living room by the window set up with two chairs and a chess board. I'm working on trying to attach this great wooden board to legs to make a stand-alone chess top table to put between the two chairs, as opposed to the regular table. And then it just has a little waterfall, a book table, and the stereo system for some nice music when I play with my dad ^.^ ]
I also have a fantastic chess poster, which I'd love to get in an actual painting...I forgot the name but its like Crazy stairs, but with chess pieces. I want to add it in the corner.

I don't recognize those boards. It looks like they have a special area for captured pieces. Are they some kind of analysis boards?

That sounds nice. Especially the waterfall. I hope you can send in photos someday.

They're smalll (12x12) roll up boards with plastic pieces. You can get them for $5 a piece if you get 10 or more from wholesale chess sets, so I blew $50 on ten of them. You can see eight on the shelves there, and if you look closely you can see a plastic bag with another set of pieces on the top shelf. The tenth set I took in to work (it fits in a drawer in my desk, and I can open the drawer and do analysis at work if I need to).
Then I got some foam core from office depot and cut it up into trays with space for the captured pieces. That way I can store the boards on the shelves, and then if I want to do an extended analysis I can pick up the tray and carry it over to my desk.

Good job on those boards. I can tell you are a dedicated player.

Used to have one--with a nice view of the lush green forest out the window--before I moved. Even had the idea of taking some shots and starting this thread. But never did. Now I just pick a spot around the house and set up camp for awhile like a squatter until its time to pick up and move on to the next spot. Glad you started this thread though. Cool photograph of somebody's work nook.

Truly awesome, ichabod801.
OK, I think I'm seeing Tile Chess, Bosworth, Knightmare Chess, shogi, xiangqi, and Icehouse. But you'll have to fill me in on the rest.

I'll go over them all, for those who are not as up on chess variants as yourself. Top shelf, just right of the middle bar, is Star Trek Chess (1/2 price on eBay). Not really a variant, but top shelf, far right, is a replica Lewis chess set. Left back corner of the floor is Proteus (each piece is a die), with three extra sets of dice. Right back corner of the floor is an Icehouse set which is set up for Martian Chess (four players, control of pieces depends on location, not color). Far row on the floor, far right, is Seirawan Chess. Middle row of the floor, left side is Beyond Chess (the board squares are tiles that can be moved). Again hard to see, but middle row of the floor, right of center is set up for Fischer Random Chess. Middle row of the floor, far right is Tile Chess (up to six players, set up for four, no board). Near row on the floor, far left, is Xiang-qi (Chinese cousin of chess). Near row on the floor, middle is Bosworth (up to four players, pieces are cards that enter the board over the course of the game). Near row on the floor, right of center is Cross Chess (two player variant with different board from Australia). Near row of the floor, far right is Shogi (Japanese cousin of chess). Arrayed in front of the near row on the floor are Knightmare Chess cards (which you can add to standard chess).
On a personal/historical note, the four sets in the far row on the floor are (from left to right): the board I learned to play on, my high school chess team board, my tournament board from a failed attempt to get back into chess after grad school, and my current tournament/club board.
I have a second house in Betws y Coed which is my chess house. It's in the Snowdonia National Park overlooking Snowdon truly stunning. Everything in it is black and white. I had to buy it to make room for all my trophies.
