Do You Play Better Over The Board Or Virtually?
Definitely OTB. My online rapid rating is lower than 400 but I do play alot of OTB rated and tournaments. You may be asking why such a low rated player would play in tourneys....because its the only local option near me and I want to play OTB. I am mostly paired with unrated players who havent played enough rated games to have a rating on US Chess but are around 1100 online. Therefore I usually play a lot of kids and when we talk before a game I have found that they have a chess coach, have been playing unrated games for years and are very happy to brag about it too. Therefore a win against them feels amazing because even though they might be only 8 years old I know they are much better than me. I also enjoy the body language feedback from my opponent such as a deep inhale and know I either made a good move or stopped their plans. When that happens I note that move on my paper then analyze the game on chess.com to figure out why it frustrated them. That is how I study chess. Meanwhile my tourney opponents are winning points from me but my rating is so low I dont care. I am happy as long as I am not last. BTW I have been 2nd to last in the last 3 big tourneys so for me it is a victory. I have only been playing OTB for 6 months and online puzzles mainly.

Depends on what I have not been doing. The visuals are different, so if I play on a chess board, then screen, I do bad on screen. If I play screen all the time, then bad live on a board.
I suck at online chess because i like feeling the pieces while i play which is why i have about 100 and something my hands slip and i have a hard time paying attention.

I don't play otb but I would have to assume virtually because you can more easily see all the pieces on the board

I deffinately find it easier online. I think it's just because I'm very used to it. You can't compare playing 20 online games a day to playing on a real board like once in 3 months.

Whether OTB or online it doesn’t affect my play. However I find it easier learning openings on a physical board.

I play much better when I am playing online than over the board, I feel like this is because I can almost see the entire board when I am online and the tactics just come straight into my eyes. When i am playing over the board, the whole board just seem meaningless and i can figure out absolutely nothing. I even start to panic after the first few moves. This problem is starting to cease because I am practicing more offline games.

I'm really weird i can play normally OTB and I can play normally on a phone screen but as soon as I'm online with a computer screen i'll play like at 1000 wheres i can play like an 1800 OTB or on my phone. ALso when i play ppl online i just cant do it i get randomly nervous which is why my accounts rated so low
I guess if I could play OTB with the custom set I mentioned above it would probably be fine.
