Yeah I remember it like it was yesterday. Wait it was yesterday.
Do you remember the first time you won a game?

The first game I "won" was with the lieutenant who was stationed in the same base. I knew less tactics than I know now, so it must had been a horrible game. Nevertheless, I memorized that my first 2 moves were 1. b4 and 2. Bb2. So I thought they were the best moves ever, and kept using it everywhere. Kind of a bad habit, but it is still fun to play Polish.

I don't know if this counts but I remember my first win. I learned how the pieces moved as a little kid but when I was around eighteen or so I played my mom's boyfriend often and he was the first to teach me basic guidelines. He gave me a healthy beating most of the time but once he played me a game without one of his rooks and that was my first win.
I learned the rules of chess when I was about 6 years old. I used to play sometimes with my father and brother, but it was just for fun. I had no idea at all what were openings, tactics, strategies and all that stuff. I just knew how to move the pieces. (I even thought that a draw in chess is impossible LOL)
We played very rarely, maybe once a month. I won some games and I lost some, but I do not really count them since my brother and my father also just know how to move the pieces, they never studied chess or anything like that.
Many years later a friend (Who was rated 2000 OTB) offered to teach me how to play better, in exchange of me giving him Russian language lessons.
I accepted so he introduced me with the openings, tactics and all that stuff. I remember the first opening he taught me was the Scotch and we worked a little bit on tactics.
We also saw some GMs games and he would say "Wow!! Anand is a genius, this move is so beautiful!" and I was absolutely clueless. I could not understand at all the game I was seeing.
Anyway, few days later I started playing at the Internet. I lost maybe 10 games in a row, but after a little bit of training I finally won a game. It was the first time ever I won a game against an unknown person!! I felt so damn happy and proud about it that I immediately Emailed my friend and told him that I just won a game (Obviously the game was full of blunders, but whatever, for me it was a great achievement!! hahaha).
