Do you show mercy?

I never show mercy and never expect mercy.

Never!!

It's a peculiar game, where victory depends on small details.

You could be losing the whole game, and in the end, by mistake or blunder; you get the victory! And when that happens, you have to hold it!

This is chess, period!

I respect your opinion although I'm not sure I'd call it unsportsmanlike. Grandmasters blunder tactics in a winning position all the time, and even they offer draws (some opponents even accept). Would they also be considered unsportsmanlike?

Yes.

No on blunders.  No on mouse slips.

And I don't expect it when I do them.  I just try to absorb what it is I did wrong and try to remember that next time.

Blundering a piece sucks.  Remembering why is the start to getting better.

To ask for a draw in a lost position, even if you were winning one move ago, is without doubt bad sportsmanship.

Now, should I feel compelled to offer a draw when my opponent is winning and makes a losing blunder? Not at all. If you blunder a piece, it is on you, it is not my fault.

casual online games are different from rated online games, and online games are different from OTB tournament games. In a casual online game, you can do whatever you want! I personally have never asked for a takeback, but if my opponent makes an obvious mouse slip (not just a bad move!), and asks for a take back, I'll probably say yes. I want to play a chess game.

In a rated game, I am much less inclined to allow a takeback, or a mercy draw! This is a rated game! Be more careful!

In an OTB tournament, there are no mouse slips! It's serious, touch-move chess. No exceptions!

Well, in friendly games with friends etc. yes, I show mercy because we are playing clearly for fan. In rated games tho, i show no mercy at all.

I'll offer a draw if my opponent hangs a piece through an obvious mis-click, sure. I've done it many times.

I'd rather start a new game with the same opponent - one where we can play it properly, instead.

In a rated OTB game, though? When official Elo points and/or money is on the line? I'm not so sure ...

If you were totally lost, then I'd say the draw is fair. If you were "losing" (in a worse position but having counterplay) then I'm a bit less certain.

I was getting outplayed and was on my way to lose but then my opponent makes an obvious blunder with his queen, giving me a winning advantage. He offers me a draw and I accept, since I feel like I don't deserve the win.

Unlike flagging or beating your opponent with a trick, I didn't do anything to actively gain the advantage. Plus, I am not too worried about rating.

What are your thoughts? If you would have declined the draw, how much do the rating points matter to you?

..I’ve done something similar before.. I’ve also plenty times very easily could’ve grabbed their queen yet chose not to.
