Waitzkin was a world champion in Tai chi push hands and is currently training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, neither of which are known for ass kicking.
On a serious note, Waitzkin got to IM status but don't think he currently plays chess seriously where as Pogonina is still playing top competition. I would expect Pogonina to win at chess

I admit, I don't have a clue what kind of martial arts he does.
But if you can't kick ass with it why do people practice it?
I don't know why there is competition for tai chi as its about being centred and flowing movements so it can't really kick ass. I think its more of a spiritual thing.
You can kick ass with jiu jitsu as you can break limbs and choke people unconscious which I think is cool. But as it doesn't involve striking, its less kick ass then say muay-thai.

Krav maga is awesome but so rarely would you get to use it. I would deliberately get into street fights if I was good at it. Krav maga is the epitomy of street fighting
