In terms of winning a position, tactics is the very last step, right? You use everything else to build up to that point, and then tactics is how you finalize it.
In the beginning tactics is useful for another reason (because your opponent will make silly blunders) but as you get better you need to know more than just tactics, because your opponents will make silly blunders less frequently. Additionally, in positions where you've been outplayed positionally, the probability of tactics appearing for you becomes very small. "Tactics flow from the superior position." -- Fischer
For example, I have an extremely low blitz rating for others around my tactics rating (Im not saying tactics is the only thing that matters, but it helps you stop making tactical blunders, and see when your opponent makes them. It also helps with sharp board vision). I was just wondering this because I feel I should be doing better in blitz because I have a sharp tactical perspective on a given position. I know it shows your actual skill less than your actual chess ratings, but shouldn't it have some indicator of how good you are?
