Does anyone else find auto-resign feature unfair?

I am well aware that some people purposely stop moving and/or disconnect when they are losing, which for me makes no logical sense. Even if there was no auto-resign feature, they would lose anyway after their time runs out, so what exactly are they accomplishing? But the point is that I am not one of them. So I find it really frustrating when the system makes me resign after I have GENUINE connection problems -- particularly since in many cases I continue to be able to access other sites but not this one, which suggests that its partly this site's fault rather than mine; and even if this site didn't have those connection issues (which they do!) still the fact remains that the problem with wifi that I am experiencing has nothing to do with my trying to avoid losing the game, so I find it really frustrating that after I been frantically trying to restart computer and FINALLY (!!!) was able to log on, I find that I have been auto-resigned. That "one minute" that they give me isn't nearly enough, because in many cases I have to restart computer and restarting computer takes more than a minute. So if they feel like they HAVE to limit my time when I am disconnected, why not at least increase it to 3 minutes so that I can safely try to reboot my computer?!

Once again, I realize that there are other people that are disconnecting on purpose -- as evident from the fact that every single time my opponents were disconnecting they were losing. But lets compare which is more frustrating: to have to wait for up to 10 minutes before I can officially "win" when its otherwise would of taken me just a couple more moves, or to be auto-resigned in a situation when I have genuine connection problems? I would say the latter is a lot more frustrating than the former. I don't mind waiting 10 minutes: I can always read a book or do my homework or something. So every single time my opponent purposely disconnected, I got my points anyway. But I really hate the situation of having been auto-resigned. So, as someone who was on both sides, I would certainly prefer the auto-resign feature not to be there. I mean, yes, I want the clock to continue moving -- regardless of whether they are disconnected or not -- so yes, if someone gets disconnected for longer than the amount of time they have left, they will lose. So whats the point of limitting it to 1 minute? Just let them lose once their time runs out! Does anyone else feel that way?

You express no concern for your opponent having to wait for you.

It's like you don't even realize that there is a real person sitting around while you futz around.

Why don't you get a better connection?

If you read my original post, I have actually stated that sometimes I was the one having to wait for my opponent, and I was totally fine with it since I got my points anyway, just 10 minutes later. So if I am fine having to wait for someone else, I don't see why can't they be fine having to wait for me? In my case when I have to wait I simply look stuff up online or do my homework or read a book, etc. Why can't they do the same?

As far as why don't I get better connection, I am not sure if that is *just* my connection or this site too. I mean it often happens that I am connected to the other sites but not this site. So why don't the mods of this site make sure the connection works better? If they can't be bothered to do it, then they shouldn't make people auto-resign.

I have been playing here for many years. I have never had a connection problem when I played at home. I have played 7,000 games.

This has happened to me and it sucks. I’ve lost to many games because of this. Like you said everything works fine except chess.com. I thought it was something my opponent was doing to avoid a lost. Glad I’m not the only one. I made a post about this the other day.
