Hold on.

If everything in the world doesn't exist, then your statement "everything in the world doesn't exist" also doesn't exist, since it's included in everything in the world. Therefore your statement cannot say whether something exists or not.

So why waste your time trying to prove whether something exists or not?

Avatar of kleelof

It is said, 'I think. Therefore, I am'.

but I know lots of people who seem NEVER to think. So, do they exist?

Avatar of Trash_Aesthetic

Morever, if I assume that everything in the world doesn't exist without stating it, how can I be refuted? for your thesis is refuted when you speak, not mine. only when we both don't speak we have a "debate"????

What does ancient Greek philosophy and literature have in common? More than you'd think. They both use what can be called negative demonstrations; that is, they both prove a mode of life by showing how NOT to live. In literature, the character (who, by the way, is an autobiographical character of the author) goes through a journey in which, by the end of the book, he learns of his futile attempts at self-pride and accepts that humanity is all the same. Plato used this method as well, to great effect. In his 38 dialogues, the character cannot define what something is. You can see it as a self-dialogue; assume something exists and then try to say what it is. You can't...

Well, at least you can't "say" what it is. But does that mean it doesn't exist?

dude they're just meaningless words. greek philosophy is full of bull....

blasphemy!!

don't confuse the ancients with the modern Greeks Tongue Out

If we speak we cannot communicate anything and if we don't speak obviously we cannot communicate anything so this thread is a waste of time.

And modern Greeks don't do philosophy

I can verify this.

Chess came into my house, slept with my girlfriend, drank all my beer and didn't even close the door on the way out.

So does it get the same rights as a corporation then?

I think, therefore I am. I play chess, therefore it exists too.
