I would say, no it is not. (RD of 100 being inaccurate by definition)

What I am saying is there is no such thing as a "true" rating to begin with.

That entire concept to me is merely theoretical and the Glicko system is the latest and best attempt to deal with reality.

I am also certain some bright, young mathematically inlcined mind will improve upon it!

The smaller any sample is, the less certain anyone can be of the results derived from such sample.  I feel comfortable claiming that can be successfully applied to donuts as well as chess ratings.

Again, I wonder, what is the genesis of your real beef here, and do you have viable solution(s)?  As your initial statement that this is a CC site is not wholly accurate (as I described above), I am now confused to what the real issue has become?

thank you richie_and_opera and a few others for your informative descriptions and analyses. I wanted to know why and how the rating system worked and now I do...much appreciated.

As for the rest of the discussion, I feel the need to add my own two cents....

most of us have taken a few stats courses and many of us are amateur chess fanatics...this I understand, but honestly, i must agree with richie_and_opera guys, what is the real issue here?

if you're looking for the kinda perfection in a system that gives you a case of the warm fuzzies perhaps you should go scuba diving in the Galapagos or something :0

just kiddin'

seriously, I play 20 games at a time, I finish one or two a day I have a glicko rd of 57 and I hover between 1450 and 1600... if I take a break and lose a couple of games cause  Icome home schwacked on good canadian beers then so be it.

the glicko rating system is a mathematical reflection, an expression, a representation

to quote the wisdom of a previous entry "What I am saying is there is no such thing as a "true" rating to begin with."

so the moral of the forum is:

1. play moves everyday and avoid timeouts

2. don't play drunk or tired (or stoned if you're canadian) if you want your rating to reflect your sober skill

3. Glicko is what we have unless you gotta better idea

4. Learn something new everyday, if you're not you're just wastin time

and thank you richie_and_opera for explaining to me why and how my rd changes

oh yeah and if you wanna increase your sample size ( and I know you do) or if I just outright pissed you off then challenge me to a game and I'll gladly accept

good luck out there!

what my RD now? I started gaining very little points lately.

thanks, I was sure it's much less. I'm comparing chess.com changes to CT changes.

ExtraBold

The changes also depend on the opponent/problem RD which you don't know.

Kacparov

Difference between loss and win is 23 points. On CT with such an RD it's about 30.

So, did the constants of the rating system ever get tweaked?  I stopped playing on this site because I don't want to always have an RD of 100 and therefore an inaccurate rating.
