Should be a highly debated question.

Yeah, but Kasparov could back it up.

Naka is a a few classes below Kasparov.

No. Most professionals think highly of themselves; in fact, it's almost a requirement to succeed. (How could anyone achieve any sort of success if they did not think highly of, or believe in, themselves?)

Some are simply more humble and down to earth, while others let their egos run free . . .

We have to use the word "professional" loosely here.

Former professional chess player maybe.

Currently professional Twitch streamer, sure.

Are there any other top countries that have a top GM, then import other GMs to replace their top GM?

Norway? Nope

China? Nope

France? Nope

Russia? Nope

Azerbaijan? Nope

Armenia? Nope

Netherlands? Nope

Hungary? Nope

Poland? Nope

India? Nope

Bulgaria? Nope

I doubt Hikaru thinks "too" highly of himself.

Wikipedia tells me Naka was born in Osaka Japan and Caruana was born in Miami Florida.

So what do you mean exactly?

---

Don't get me wrong. I consider Naka 100% American. He moved here when he was 2.

I'm just saying, what do you mean imported someone to replace him?

Who was "imported?"

Avatar of PleasantEscalator

Caruana was born in Florida pure american

Avatar of llama

All future top players went to Europe as kids to tour the top tournaments. That's part of what it takes to become good.

Caruana wasn't "imported" lol.

And Naka has always been 2nd rate when it comes to the world top 10... but of course by his own account he ranks among players like Kasparov and Capablanca because he recently acquired some followers on social media (barf).

Well yeah.

Naka is a very prideful person. Levy is smart enough to flatter him... if he didn't he would quickly be replaced.

I was randomly clicking through the video in question... Naka banned a follower on Twitch (i.e. someone who paid Naka money) for simply saying that Naka was being rude to Levy.

What a fking joke.

Think skin = low self esteem.

Part of that is his parent's fault... seriously Naka said in an interview years ago that while he was busy winning the US championship his parents couldn't have cared less and didn't even know he was leading going into the last rounds.

So maybe he feels like he never achieved something... maybe he's a grown man who needs people like Levy to lavish him with hollow praise from time to time. Who knows.

US is stacking the deck with Russian sounding GMs

Name one Russian sounding US GM.

lol

Caruana (Italian)
So (Philippines)
Nakamura (Japan)

You'd have to go back to Kamsky to talk about Russian US GMs. I think the last time he was far advanced in a candidates cycles was 15-20 years ago.

Yermolinsky, lol.

He's at least 50 years old, and that's without googling. How many decades has it been since he's been at the top?

I guess you've been trolling me.

What a fking waste of time.

Avatar of llama

Does Russia, India, or China have any American sounding 50 year old engineers?

Of course professionals come here. There's money here.

Unfollowing by the way.
