does playing 1.d4 help at improving chess?

I know it may sound as a very stupid question but I've been playing 1.e4 all the time and have been stuck at 1200 elo for a long time now and I have been wondering whether i should change my opening to 1.d4 as i've seen that when i play with black against 1.d4 i am clueless and have no idea what to do later on, so if i start playing 1.d4 will it help me gain some elo and improve at chess?
