Actually I think you have improved! Look at your rating!

"Here's why you shouldn't take chess too seriously:

  • Stress and Anxiety:
Being overly competitive, focusing too much on winning and on ratings, can be stressful.

Excessive study and play can lead to burnout, where you lose passion for the game, and for the fun of the game.
  • Potential for becoming a Bad Loser:
Taking losses too personally can lead to frustration, anger, and negative attitudes towards opponents.
  • Loss of Enjoyment:
If you're constantly focused on winning and improving, you might lose sight of the joy and intellectual stimulation that chess can offer.
  • Difficulty Switching Off:
Some players find it hard to switch off from chess, even when not playing, leading to constant analysis and rumination.
  • Chess is Not a Life or Death Situation:
Chess is just a game, and while it can be mentally stimulating and enjoyable, it's not worth sacrificing good sportsmanship or your own well-being

Remember the Fun:

Chess should be enjoyable. If it starts feeling like a chore, take a break or adjust your attitude."

Personally I have found out 100 ELOs can sometimes play and have tactics that the 300s and 400s usually pick up. I know this considering i have played for three months and honestly have seen it myself, whether it be rapid or blitz

Thank you for the advice and here's the kicker... my brain is practically in magnus carlsen mode 24/7... like I am constantly thinking of chess whether it is casually or studying through watching videos on YouTube or finding myself here on chess.com. If you refer to my previous forums, I even spent 25 dollars on a chess board!! You could say it's in my blood, I just don't want to feel like I overinvested for nothing... it's pretty stupid honestly... there's even times where I legit play myself on the chess board but since all this, I put my board away for now, trying to not think about it...

Honestly, if you don't enjoy it, don't play. Why make yourself miserable?

ucscparakat

Well, I do hope you decide to stick around. Maybe worry about your rating in a year, I don't know, maybe never might be better, my opinion.

Just enjoy the feeling of playing and figure it could be a great way to make friends, especially after I just graduated from high school and didn't get into until I was about to graduate... I just want friends and hopefully to find great relationships through chess but I don't want to walk into a chess club as a 100-200 ELO... I'd rather improve on my skills and understand what I am talking about before I walk up in there like I know something you know?... I already know that there will be higher rated players who play against me in the club.. I just want a chance when I eventually do go against them so I don't just get obliterated...

The most impressive people are those who don't let external factors such as losing at chess affect them. Inner strength is very important.

Defnitely stick around then, i think... give it more time. Three months isn't enough.

Your very correct and honestly I don't think chess may be the game for me then... I have pulled off some legendary things in my games but if this isn't going to make me any money or help my personal life or make it worse .. I think I just gotta retire...

Ehh... considering it but either way... if Chess can't help my current situation then I may just retire fully, I have pulled off some great things on the chess board but to put it into reality I dont think im having fun playing right now... knowing the rating system is how it is too doesn't motivate me either... why would I want to play if I am not improving?

ucscparakat

I understand. I often take weeks or months off, not because of my Elo or because I lose but just because, for me --oh no, here comes the blasphemy-- chess gets old fast, read that chess can be boring. If it wasn't so competitive, if there weren't so many who treat it like it's more than a game... if, say, there was no rating system, no recognition of 'masters', most would not play.

if rating doesn't motivate you, try another metric, why dont you aim for like 500 wins by the end of the year or a 50% win rate for your next 20 games?

How the heck is they possible when every game I play, THEY PLAY THE QUEEN WAYSIDE KIDDIE COUNTERGAMBIT EVERYTIME????? I have studied how to possibly combat this opening but after it just got played on me for like the 7th time today I don't even want to play.. why even try when people play like that??? This is the first time something like this has happened to me and never seen anything like it... feel free to study my tilt session from today and you'll easily see for yourself! Some games I was just mad and aborting but when I actually decided to play, each time. That same countergambit was played against me. I don't think the site is rigged against me but im not playing on this site if im getting hit with garbage every game I play... :// it's why I hate being 100 ELO

And thats my issue with the whole "queens gambit" or 2020 blow up of chess!!! It caused so many people to want to get into competitive chess, in its already non marketed state due to the horrible federation behind chess, *cough* FIDE *COUGH*... either way... I need chess so I can build relationships and make friends and hopefully make a side income but... that's near to impossible these days due to this exact reason... a lot more casuals and a bunch of more non serious players who meme for the hell of it...

Thank you but... in all honesty.. It doesnt put into perspective the hours I put into chess just for a lousy near 200 rating after 3 months of constant living and breathing chess.... :l

Well yeah, that's me. I'm very casual about chess, very non-serious. I play because I find it enjoyable and only when I find it enjoyable. And, yes, I do a lot of things just for the hell of it happy ... à chacun le sien.
