I wonder if double checkmate is even a correct term, I would just call it checkmate, and add double check for more interesting info, but in the end, it's still just checkmate (i.e. game over)

If we're taking the double checkmate to be what it really is, the correct term is checkmate by double check.

I stand by my comments here from back then. Double checkmate for me would be two individual checkmates, basically winning two games in a move. I can imagine for example a double checkmate would be possible in 4-way chess. I tend to agree with DifferentialGalois's description above, checkmate by double check or maybe double check checkmate
