Draw on repetition? 5x repeated move with no automatic draw?
1. Kh1 Qe7 2. Kg1 Qa7 3. Kh1 Qa5 4. Kg1 Qc7 5. Kh1 Qb6 6. Kg1 Qc7 7. Kh1 Qe7 8. Kg1 (you can copy and paste this into the analysis board if you need to see it over the board) however, this is not repetition. Even though the king is going back-and-forth between H1 and G1, the opponent is moving to different squares and not repeating moves with their own pieces.
1. Qf8+ Qc8 2. Qb4+ Qb7 3. Qf8+ Qc8 4. Qb4+ Qb7 5. Qf8+ Qc8 {1/2-1/2}
This would be a draw because both players are repeating the same moves on either side.
Thank you Tucker & Fre3nch Toast Crunch. You two were quite helpful!
Pfren, yes, I read the rules, but when I read them, it was about 45 years ago, and I think I've had one draw game since I came back to chess almost 2 years ago. Thank you for the very helpful and insightful comment. It was truly eye opening. Life changing even. If you're going to take the time to answer, at least try to help versus being a rectal orifice. That one draw I was a daily game with me at 750 vs someone at 1150. I gained the upper hand and played 4 forcing moves and passed on the 5th to fork his queen and knight. I should have taken one more forcing move, but I miscalculated one move and instead of trying to beat someone rated 400 points below him, he opted to play it safe and force a draw.
Anyway, good luck and I hope you break under that #4,000 barrier (or do it again). That's quite impressive.
I repeated the same move 4x (or 5?) back-to-back in a 5-minute rapid and chess.com didn't do an automatic draw. What happened?
I moved my King from:
G1 to H2
H2 to G1
G1 to H2
H2 to G1
G1 to H2
H2 to G1
