I was wondering, why cant I get a draw when I claim the same square more than 3 times with my King when I have no other pieces? What am I missing here? Isn't it like a... chess rule?
Has to be same position 3 times... He has to keep moving the same places as well....

The main thing is that the position has to be exactly the same, including all castling and en passant rights, at least three different times and the same player has to be on the move each time the position occurs for it to count. The same position is all pieces and pawns on the exact same squares.
If white was next to move the first two times a position occurs but on the third time it is black to move, that doesn't count.
If en passant was available on the first time the postion occurred, it doesn't count towards a triple-repetition since in the latter positions en passant isn't possible for that particular pawn.
A less common case is if the first postion had the ability to castle but subsequently the king or rook moved, that position doesn't count castling on that side, whichever it is, even if the king and rook move back to their original squares.

Who's the one being an "ass"? You're the one who jumped to the conclusion he wasn't "claiming it". He was. He just is clearly confused as to what threefold repetition of the position on the board is. Perhaps explaining that to our friend would be more beneficial...?
