Drugs in Chess

nobody needs any drugs to play chess or any other game. just hard work and honesty.

When it comes down to it, those who study the hardest for the longest tend to be the better players, no matter what drugs anyone is or isnt using. So just chill out, do what your most comfortable doing ( drugwise) and leave drugtesting to the physical sports, where drugs have actually been proven to make a difference.

I have found that I play best stone cold sober, so if I play that way in a tournament, does that give me an unfair advantage? of course not. So if my opponent plays best on a combination of idebenone and oxiracetam, he is just playing in his comfort zone, where he has found, or thinks he has found, he plays best. not an unfair advantage over me. Just learn about yourself and do what fits.

In my opinion (someone who has been there and done that), I do not think that any drugs that you use will do much to make anybody more keen than when they started to begin with.  It may seem that way, but I'm afraid that that is part of the euphoria/illusion (or terror in some instances) of using whatever drugs.  I would ask that we define what things would enhance the performance of chess players in the first place and then work from there.  Bottom line is (and this is purely my speculation) that if they made a drug to enhance your intuition and judgement skills, then it would behoove (sp.) the entire population to administer and take said supplements.  I do like to play chess under the influence.  Then again, I do like to do several other things in the same states.  Happy experimenting all, but I'm going to be a hater on this one.  I don't think that any substances will have effects that will be proven to improve a players game.  (Just a hypothesis, and in this case one that would support non-banning of substances in the chess world [for all of you that hated my post]).  I suppose practice always helps.

My two cents,

M

No drugs can really improve (at least proven) chess performance, they either will make you too calm/relaxed not useful for time trouble right; or they will make you too excited, thinking faster, playing less carefouly and too fast for your own good. No one can really point to a drug and say this will boost your playing skill in x% it always depends on the in game situation

I am willing to bet Tianeptine will have a decent positive impact on games/study periods.

i would advize takin xanax and lortabs. The xanax may cause u to make some odd moves but i can almost gurantee that it will confuse ur opponent.

I think you want to play for drugs if you want to improve your game not play on drugs!!!

speed and caffeine will make you a ruthless chess monster with no regard for anything but your miniscule touch pad and or mouse; resulting in the entanglement of the metaphorical "vital" strands of logic required to read and or decieve your opponent in ways unpresumably known to any master or aforesaid player. nicotine helps as well

i read an article the other day about drugs used to enhance study by college students. they didn't find any that helped the studying part but they did find some that helped in taking tests since they improved concentration and clarity of mind.
The drugs  adderral and ritilin were shown to have beneficial effects in test taking. these are normally used for hyper activity or attention defecit disorder. Having tried both in a past time I think they could help in tournament chess play. One tends to lose concentration after a point.

I been banned from enough tournaments now to know that the intentional drugging of opponents to gain an advantage is frowned upon in chess circles.

However it got me to thinking are you allowed to actually take performance enhancing drugs to improve your own game?

Are there random drug tests for the top players?  I can't ever remember reading about Kasparov having to go away after a victory to micturite into a bottle.  I've checked on Ebay and I can't buy it so it can't ever have happened.

As a former amateur veterinarian (I used to euthanase pets for a hobby, but THEY closed me down.  Apparently in the UK you need a licence.

And the owner’s permission) I have access to and take a keen interest in performance enhancing pharmaceuticals.  Like all great scientists I have been using myself as a guinea pig and have played my first 100 games on Chess.com under the influence of a variety of drugs in a carefully controlled scientific experiment.

As a control I played my first 10 games “clean”.  I lost 8 and won 2.

The next 10 I used alcohol (A 30 year old Glenfiddich).  I lost 6 and won 4.

And so I went on with:

Temazepam (W1:L9) – can’t really remember these games.

Dexedrine (W7:L3)

Mescaline (W6:L4)

MDMA (W5:L5)

Rohypnol (W2:L8) – won 2 on time

Drontal Plus (W3:L7)

Teramycin (W4:L6)

Vaginon (W1:L9) – these tasted truly awful and really took some swallowing.

So even from this short study it appears that Dexedrine is the one to go for.  I wonder if Kasparov used to take this?  Unfortunately under all doping regimens I was unable to counter the Sicilian.

Does anyone know what I should take to beat this diabolical opening?

Try this. The point of the sicillian is to trade the c pawn for the d pawn. Stop this, develop quickly and watch out for your queen's side.
