Put the piece on top of one of your own pieces and it will go back to the original square. Do you really call it a mouth?
Dumb Question. Really Dumb.

That's a good idea! There's been more than a few times when I wasn't sure where I had picked up the piece.
Great idea indeed! I'm happy that I've read this thread :-)
Doesn't apply when I'm left with a lone king though...

Put the king on top of your opponent's king and it will go back to the original square as well;)
Hi Joseph-S:)
You are not alone OP. I try to do all those tricks, but under time pressure sometimes i also screw it.
I fling the piece to the side. Not recommended, as there's the odd time I've puit the queen on the side, only to release it on the end of a pawn chain... ouch!
Ok....sometimes when I move a piece to a new position but have not yet released my mouth, meaning I can still take back move, realizing it wasnot the best move, how can you figure out where the piece was before you moved it. Sometimes, I will move a light squared bishop to a dark square because the software will automatically put the piece back in the correct position. I have lost a few games because when I put the piece back to the position I thought it was from, it actualy was one square away and the software thinks that was my final move. I blow a great game and 15 minutes of chess because of something so stupid. Told you this was a dumb question. I guess I am dumb. But I am cool with that. Better than being both dumb and ugly.
Why r u moving pieces with ur mouth?
But if you suddenly can't remember where your piece came from, how can you tell which square is illegal?
It seems like the touch move inventors found a way to prevent your problem from happenning in the first place.
But if you suddenly can't remember where your piece came from, how can you tell which square is illegal?
Are you telling me if your rook was on c3 and you picked it up, and forgot the exact square, that you would not even be able to remember approximately where it came from?
But, in any case, someone pointed out you can drag it off the board which is probably the best for someone who has this problem with their memory.
Well, <Kleelof> - I really like your postings in general. Many times you make me laugh... but this time - well, look at the OP :-) This thread isn't about me :-)
"Approximately"... oh yeah - I do remember vaguely that it did come from somewhere, at least in the VICINITY of a chess board... I remember squares... some of them were in black and white...
