e4 or d4?

Hi, I have a simple question about openning preparation. I have often heard of players at all levels specializing in either d4 or e4 opennings. I was wondering if anyone had an idea of which openning I should prepare. I played both and didn't have a strong preference for either one, so I ended up trying to learn the opennings for both.  This quickly got to be too much to learn after memorizing the basic mainlines of most of the major opennings. But I stuck with approach using DB's to make up for my lack of knowledge in CC chess. Any advice on whether I should try to play e4 or d4?
