"I have found that after 1.d4 there are more opportunities for richer play." - Gary kasparov.
e4 VS d4!!
"according to Hans Berliner d4 is better than e4 because d4 is defended by the queen...."
This is true but when white play d4 black can play d5 and also obtain a central pawn defended by the queen. If white plays e4 for play d5 black pay a price. If white play e4 white can put more pression against e5 that white against d5 in a d4 game. In the other hand against e4 black can play c5! and against d4 black can pay a price to play f5.
I have never played c4, I think e4 and d4 are both better, any one agree?
I agree

Of course, everyone knows whites very best first move is 1.c4. But which s second best? An interesting question!
If I couldn't pkay 1.c4 for whatever reason, I would likely play 1.d4. Granted, it's no c4. But still, it is not entirely without merit.
Interesting thread, OP
Although statistically c4 is good it isn't the best opening. e4 is best by test and d4 too is equally good.
I find that e4 openings tend to be more "intuitive" - if I follow basic opening principles I usually won't bomb the opening and I end up playing the main line openings anyway. On the other hand I find that even when I play against d4 openings (since I generally don't start with d4), a move which seems to be solid often comes back and bite me in the @$$. So I just play e4, follow basic opening principles, and 99% of the time I come out of the opening in good shape for the middlegame.

C4 never fails me
